How to do force restart?

The method for performing a force restart depends on the type of device you’re using. Here are the steps for some common devices:

iPhone:

  • iPhone 8 and later: Quickly press and release the Volume Up button, quickly press and release the Volume Down button, then press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.
  • iPhone 7 and 7 Plus: Press and hold the Volume Down and the Sleep/Wake (Side) button until you see the Apple logo.
  • iPhone 6s, SE (1st generation), or earlier: Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake (Top) button until you see the Apple logo.

iPad:

  • iPad with Face ID (iPad Pro 11″ and 12.9″ (3rd generation and later)): Quick press Volume Up, quick press Volume Down, then press and hold the Top button until you see the Apple logo.
  • iPads with Home Button: Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button until you see the Apple logo.

Android:

The method can vary by manufacturer and model, but a common approach is:

  • Hold the Power button: Press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds until the device restarts.
  • Power + Volume buttons: In some cases, you may need to hold both the Power and Volume Down buttons together.

Windows PC:

  • If your PC is unresponsive: Press and hold the Power button until the computer turns off. Wait a few seconds, then press the Power button again to turn it back on.

Mac:

  • MacBook: Press and hold the Power button until the machine turns off. Wait a few seconds, then press the Power button again to restart it.
  • Desktop Mac: The same method applies. Just hold the Power button.

Always make sure to use force restart sparingly, as it can sometimes lead to loss of unsaved data or potential issues with the operating system.
