Resetting a Samsung phone can vary depending on the model and the version of Android it’s running. However, here are the general steps for performing a factory reset:
Resetting via Settings Menu
- Backup Your Data: Before resetting your phone, it’s important to back up any data you want to keep, as a factory reset will erase all data on the device.
- Open Settings: Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull down the notification shade and tap on the gear icon (⚙) to open the Settings.
- Locate the General Management:
- Scroll down and tap on “General management.”
- Select Reset:
- Tap on “Reset” to continue.
- Choose Factory Data Reset:
- Tap on “Factory data reset.”
- Review Information:
- You will see a list of accounts that will be removed and data that will be erased. Review this information to ensure you want to proceed.
- Finalize Reset:
- Scroll down and tap “Reset” or “Reset Device.”
- If prompted, enter your PIN, password, or pattern.
- Tap “Delete all” to confirm.
- Wait: Your device will restart and begin the reset process. This may take a few minutes.
Resetting via Hardware Buttons
If the phone is unresponsive or you can’t access the settings, you can also perform a factory reset using hardware buttons:
- Turn Off the Phone: Power off the device.
- Enter Recovery Mode:
- Press and hold the Volume Up button and the Power button (and Home button if your model has one). Release all buttons when the Samsung logo appears.
- If you’re using a newer device, you might need to hold the Bixby button instead of the Home button.
- Navigate Recovery Menu:
- Use the Volume buttons to navigate through the menu options, and highlight “Wipe data/factory reset.”
- Select Option:
- Press the Power button to select the highlighted option.
- Confirm Reset:
- Use the Volume buttons to highlight “Yes” and press the Power button to confirm.
- Reboot the Device:
- After the reset is complete, you’ll see the recovery menu again. Select “Reboot system now” and press the Power button.
Note:
- After a factory reset, you’ll need to set up your phone again as if it were new.
- If you are using Google’s Find My Device, you might need to enter your Google account credentials after the reset due to security features.
